š„ Truth #11: DEI? Mostly PR.
Companies love to talk about diversity and inclusionāworkshops, hashtags, polished reports. Real change? Rare. If youāre waiting for the system to fix itself, donāt hold your breath. Advocate for yourself.
š„ Truth #12: Your job description is fiction.
Itās not a contractāitās a suggestion. If youāre good, theyāll keep piling on more work without more pay. Scope creep is real. Push back, or youāll drown.
š„ Truth #13: Most meetings are useless.
They exist to make people feel important, not to get things done. Learn to spot the difference between decision-making and time-wasting. Skip what doesnāt move the needle.
š„ Truth #14: Your ideas arenāt safe.
Someone will try to take credit for your work. Document everything. Speak up. And if someone steals your thunder? Call them outāwith receipts.
Quick side noteābecause I just lived this.
My āCorporate Gameā video? It was based on something I wrote in my newsletter weeks ago. But another creator put out similar content. Thatās reality: ideas circulate, sometimes intentionally, sometimes by coincidence.
Hereās what Iāve learned:

Both things can be true. Ideas get taken, but having proof of yours matters.

Choose your battles. I couldāve gotten caught up in the noise, but I didnāt. Why? Because the impact matters more than the credit.

Rinse and repeat. Most ideas arenāt new. Sometimes, it takes another voice to make it click for someone.
Am I mad? No.
Do I want sole credit? Also no.
Iām mature enough to know that what really matters is impact.
Bottom line: Protect your work, but donāt let distractions pull you away from the bigger picture. Decide what hill you want to die onāand make sure itās worth it.

š„ Truth #15: The perfect workplace is a myth.
Every company has issuesābad leadership, toxic culture, unrealistic expectations. Your job? Find the one where the pros outweigh the cons for you.
š„ Truth #16: Networking isnāt optional.
Itās survival. The people you know can save your career when layoffs hit or leadership changes. Stop pretending your skills alone will protect you.
š„ Truth #17: Job security doesnāt exist.
Layoffs. Budget cuts. Restructuring. It can happen to anyone. Stay ready. Always have a Plan B. If you donāt, youāre playing corporate roulette.
š„ Truth #18: The bottom line runs everything.
Mission, values, culture? Nice words. But profit is the real driver. Understand that, and youāll understand every leadership decision.
š„ Truth #19: No oneās holding your hand.
Sink or swimāthatās how most companies operate. Donāt wait for training or mentorship. Seek it out. Own your development, or get left behind.
š„ Truth #20: Your career is YOUR responsibility.
No one cares about your growth as much as you do. If youāre waiting for someone to notice your potential, youāll wait forever. Take charge.

The Big Freeze: Why the Job Market Feels Stuck
Despite low unemployment, the job market is at a standstill. Workers arenāt quitting, and businesses arenāt hiring. Economist RogĆ© Karma calls this phenomenon the āBig Freeze,ā where hiring rates have dropped to post-Great Recession levels, particularly in white-collar sectors. The reasons? Employers are still wary after the Great Resignation, economic uncertainty has stalled growth, and political instability has made companies hesitant to commit to new hires.
For job seekers, especially recent grads, this has created an uphill battle. While layoffs remain low, opportunities to switch jobsāand increase earningsāhave dried up. The long-term effects could mean stagnation in wages, career growth, and overall economic mobility. Until companies regain confidence in the future, the hiring freeze is here to stay.
