Elite Edge | Vol 2 Week 9
βπ½ From My Desk
This week felt loud.
Layoffs.
AI panic.
Executives talking about the βfuture of workβ like itβs a weather system we just have to endure.
And every time the headlines spike, I see the same response:
Fear.
Freeze.
Silence.
You start asking if your company is safe.
If your industry is safe.
If your role is safe.
But you forget to ask the only question that matters:
Am I positioned?
Thatβs career amnesia.
You forget your leverage.
You forget that companies act in their own interest.
You forget that adaptability beats loyalty.
You forget that power is built before you need it.
So this week, letβs connect the dots.
πWhat I Read This Weekβ¦
Nearly half the workforce. Not a slow bleed. Not incremental trimming.
A decision.
The memo framed it around focus and speed.
And maybe thatβs true. But hereβs what matters:
If a company can remove 40% of its workforce in one strategic pivot, your job was never structural security.
It was situational alignment.
Companies optimize for survival and growth.
Not for your comfort.
The argument:
Historically, technology destroys some jobs β and creates more.
True.
But that doesnβt protect individuals mid-transition.
Every industrial shift rewards early movers.
It punishes passive observers.
The system may rebalance.
But you still have to reposition.
History doesnβt protect the complacent.
This one was the tell.
AI leaders are not telling their kids:
βFind a safe job and stay there.β
Theyβre saying:
Learn how to learn.
Develop adaptability.
Combine technical + human judgment.
Build range.
Optionality > stability.
If the people building the future are training their children for flexibility, why are you still clinging to a static plan?
𧩠What Iβm Thinking About
All three articles say the same thing in different ways:
β’ Companies will move decisively.
β’ Technology will reshape roles.
β’ Adaptability is the asset.
And yetβ¦
Most professionals respond by tightening their grip.
Thatβs career amnesia.
You forget:
You have experience.
You have pattern recognition.
You have network capital.
You can stack skills.
You can reposition.
But power unused feels like power that doesnβt exist.
So you outsource your confidence to your employer.
Thatβs the mistake.
π§ What Is Career Amnesia?
Career amnesia is what happens when a headline makes you shrink.
A layoff memo drops.
AI dominates the news cycle.
A CEO talks about βefficiency.β
And suddenly you forget:
The skills youβve built.
The problems you know how to solve.
The network youβve accumulated.
The fact that youβve survived every shift so far.
Career amnesia isnβt lack of talent.
Itβs fear-induced memory loss.
Every time the market moves, you momentarily forget who you are without your title.
Thatβs the real risk.
π The Tactical Reset
If you want to stop forgetting your power, do this:
1οΈβ£ Audit Your External Signal
If you were laid off tomorrow:
Who would call you?
Who would recommend you?
Who knows what you actually do?
If the answer is βmostly my internal team,β thatβs your vulnerability.
2οΈβ£ Upgrade Your Narrative
Are you describing your job?
Or are you describing the problems you solve?
Thereβs a difference between:
βVP of Operationsβ
And:
βExecutive leader optimizing capital efficiency across multi-region teams.β
Language determines altitude.
3οΈβ£ Build One Optionality Lane
Not five.
One.
Advisory work
Writing
Speaking
Fractional leadership
AI skill stacking
Consulting
Optionality isnβt quitting your W-2. Itβs designing leverage next to it.
πΌ Job Market Signal
Hereβs what Iβm seeing across AI, finance, and tech leadership searches:
Leaner teams
Higher performance thresholds
Fewer middle layers
More demand for cross-functional operators
The leaders getting calls right now?
Theyβre not just competent. Theyβre positioned.
π If Youβre Feeling the Shiftβ¦
If this week made you uncomfortable, thatβs awareness returning.

ποΈWhat I Listened to This Weekβ¦ (Podcasts)
π Closing Thought
Technology evolves.
Companies pivot.
Markets shift.
The only dangerous move is pretending your power disappeared.
It didnβt. You just stopped using it.
Youβve got the Edge. Now sharpen it.

π° My Answer to Reverse Recruiting
When I read the Wall Street Journal piece last month about candidates paying thousands for βreverse recruiting,β I felt disappointed.
Some services charge $1,500 per month β then take 10% of your first-year salary.
On a $150K role? Thatβs $15,000.
Add retainers and youβre well beyond that.
Thatβs not strategy. Thatβs outsourcing anxiety at a premium.
And when AI is used to impersonate you in outreach? Thatβs reputational risk.
So I built something different.
